Hello ISOC members,
We are excited to share this news update. On Friday 26th August 2022, a group of Secondary School girls who were sponsored by ISOC-Sierra Leone Chapter, completed and received certificates for the ICT Beginners Course at The Aurora Foundation.
These girls were attendees at this years’ ISOC-SL Girls in ICT event held at the FCC Complex in Freetown. Based on requests at the the event we created an ICT Careers Mentorship programme on WhatsApp. It was through this mentorship program that a decision was made for ISOC-SL to provide scholarships for our girls to attend the course at Aurora.
The Aurora Foundation works with young people in the areas of technology, entrepreneurship and youth empowerment. Our girls had the opportunity to learn basic computer skills that they would need to survive in this technological age. Our girls graduated from the class and were honored with certificates of completion. Two out of the 9 girls that were part of the program had exceptional results and were granted free scholarships for the intermediate session which will be happening in the coming weeks.
We are very grateful for this partnership and to be able to provide the girls with ongoing mentorship, digital tools and support so that they are prepared and can thrive and be ready for careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Congratulations to this first cohort and we hope to bring more on board next time around.
